War and Torture
These works focus on war and torture. I source my imagery from genuine acts of torture, focusing on sensory overload, this is when one or more of the five sense are strained to the extreme and sensory deprivation, which is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. The works are surreal pieces, due to the mix of the intial morbid subject matter set against a humorous, fantasy edge. The works looks at the glamourization of torture and war in our mass-media, with imagery and references to it, which infect most elements or our lives. The works explore the extreme possibility that torture could be so over glamourized that places like Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib could be turned into theme parks, tourist attractions.
Other works look at portraying the feelings of the tortured onto the viewer of the piece, They make the viewer the subject and the viewed. The works disorientate and confuse the viewer with the juxtaposition of imagery of Mickey Mouse with torture methods.
